Scale & sustain

If this site goes dark, the other one has to take over.

Primary and DR, active-active or active-passive, platforms that stay up across sites, with failover you've tested. We design the topology, the data path, and the runbook so a site loss is an event you handle, not an outage you discover.

Sounds like "If this site goes dark, the other one has to take over."
Multi-Data-Center Operations
What it looks like

You might recognize one of these.

Multi-site work starts when one building, one provider, or one metro is no longer an acceptable blast radius.

DR is a second room that nobody fails to The gear is there. The last failover test is a story from two years ago.
The data doesn't actually land on the other side Replication lag, broken VPN, or a backup that only lives in the primary.
DNS and identity are still single-site You can fail the app. You can't fail the things the app needs to answer.
A contract says two sites The auditor or the customer already wrote it down. The topology hasn't caught up.
Why it's hard

Two sites is not two copies of a rack.

Distance, consistency, and human process all show up. A second data center that isn't in the failover path is just a more expensive spare closet.

01

The network is the product

Latency, MTU, routing, and how clients find the surviving site. Get this wrong and failover looks like a hang.

02

State has to survive the jump

Databases, sessions, and storage need a replication story that matches the RPO you promised.

03

People have to run the play

Split-brain, who declares a disaster, and how you fail back. Untested process is the usual outage.

How we approach it

Design both sites. Then fail one on purpose.

We treat the second site as part of production from day one, not a project you'll "enable later."

  1. 01

    Pick the real topology

Active-passive, active-active, what stays warm, what stays cold. Honest about RPO and RTO.

  2. 02

Build the data and traffic path

Replication, DNS or VIP behavior, and the dependencies that have to move with the app.

  3. 03

    Write the failover and failback

Who decides, what gets flipped, how you know it worked.

  4. 04

    Test it

Take a site down in a controlled window. Time it. Fix what the test found.

What you walk away with

A second site that can actually take over.

✓
A topology you can explain What is primary, what is DR, and what happens when one disappears.
✓
Replication that matches the promise RPO as a number you've seen in a test.
✓
A failover you've run Not a diagram.
✓
A failback path So you can come home without making a second disaster.
